One Story.  One Purpose.  One Voice.
The Eleventh Summer is just one story among
millions.  Sarah Norkus tells her story for the purpose
of raising awareness of the secret lives of desperation
that children with substance-abusive parents lead
every day.  They are all around us.  Together we can
make a difference.  Together we can give a voice to
children of alcoholics.  The following is an excerpt from
the preface:

My purpose in writing my story is to reach out
with empathy to anyone who ever suffered
abuse at the hand of an alcoholic parent.  I want
you to know that you are not alone.  Although I
had no voice when I was a child, I do now.  If
there is no human presence to encourage or
comfort you, God is always there to love you and
ease your suffering.  I believe all those who
read my "coming of age" journey will come
away with compassion in their hearts for the
children in these circumstances, a sense of
pride in their own accomplishments, and the
realization that no problem is insurmountable.

How can I purchase The Eleventh Summer?
The Opportunity
The National Association for Children of Alcoholics states there are more than
twenty-eight million Americans who are children of alcoholics; nearly eleven million of
them are under the age of eighteen.  These children are all around us - many
desperate for a helping hand that they do not know how to find.  This is an issue that
needs addressing and intervention.  We can, and must make a difference for these
families.  Their future, and ours, is in the balance.  Please visit the following websites

Giving a voice to children of alcoholics
A true story
  of survival,
       courage,
      and hope
in a childhood
traumatized by
     an abusive,
       alcoholic
         parent.
The Eleventh Summer is a
true story of a courageous
eleven year old girl locked
in an emotional battle for
survival with her suicidal
alcoholic mother. Love and
faith play an important role
as she triumphs over the
traumatic events of the
summer of 1967.
